Carlton AFLW midfielders Dayna Finn and Lily Goss, along with defender Ciara Fitzgerald, have committed to the Blues until the end of 2026, signing contract extensions that solidify the club’s future.
Dayna Finn, a former Gaelic football and basketball representative for Ireland, joined Carlton in 2022 and has quickly adapted to AFLW. Over two seasons, Finn has demonstrated her versatility and professionalism, becoming a key part of the team. A highlight of her 2024 season was her standout performance in Round 2 against Gold Coast, where she collected 17 disposals and seven marks. Finn’s match-winning goal against Collingwood showcased her ability to perform under pressure, further cementing her place in the Blues’ midfield.
Lily Goss, a one-club player, was drafted from Carlton’s VFLW program in 2022 and has been a reliable presence in the midfield ever since. Goss is known for her defensive mindset, tackling pressure, and ball-winning ability, traits that have made her indispensable to the Blues. Her standout performance came in Round 9 of 2024, where she recorded nine tackles and 14 disposals in a hard-fought game against Collingwood.
Ciara Fitzgerald joined Carlton in 2023 as an injury replacement player and has become a vital part of the team’s defence. Averaging 3.5 tackles per game, Fitzgerald’s ability to read the play and make defensive impacts has been a cornerstone of the Blues’ backline. Her versatility, both in the air and at ground level, makes her a challenging opponent for any forward.
Head of AFLW Ash Naulty praised the trio for their contributions:
“These players exemplify elite standards and work ethic. Dayna has adapted seamlessly to various roles, Lily brings consistent impact to contests, and Ciara’s defensive versatility is invaluable.”
The Blues are excited to see what this talented trio will achieve in the coming years as they continue to grow and strengthen the team.
