Cricket Australia (CA) and the Shane Warne Legacy (SWL) are continuing their partnership to raise awareness for heart health at the NRMA Insurance Boxing Day Test for the next two years.
Fans attending the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) can access free Shane Warne Legacy Health Checks provided by SiSU Health and supported by the Victorian Government. These medical-grade, self-serve health checks measure vital metrics like blood pressure, BMI, heart rate, and heart age. This year, 52 stations—symbolising Warne’s age at the time of his passing—will be set up around the MCG.
For higher-risk participants, the health checks will include clinician-led on-the-spot blood glucose and cholesterol tests, further supporting the mission to combat heart disease.
Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley emphasised the importance of the initiative, saying, “Last year it was wonderful to see so many people taking a test, wearing floppy hats, and tipping their hat at 3.50pm to honour Shane. This year, with more stations and added services, we hope even more fans take the opportunity to check their health.”
In addition to the health checks, fans are encouraged to wear floppy hats and participate in the 3.50pm tribute each day of the Boxing Day Test, honouring Warne’s iconic look and Test cap number.
SWL Chief Executive Helen Nolan reflected on the program’s impact, stating, “Shane would be humbled by the love and respect shown to him. The health checks have already helped countless Australians make healthier lifestyle choices, and this year’s expanded efforts will only further that legacy.”
