Western Bulldogs legend Chris Grant has announced his departure from the club after more than 30 years of service as a player, Board member, and Executive.
Grant, who played 341 games for the Bulldogs over 18 seasons, is a Hall of Fame inductee and one of the club’s greatest players. His stellar playing career includes three All-Australian honours, two Charles Sutton Medals, and induction into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
After retiring, Grant joined the Bulldogs’ Board in 2011 before transitioning to a full-time Executive role in 2016, overseeing the men’s, women’s, and academy programs. During his tenure, he led the club through its most successful era, including the 2016 AFL Premiership, the 2021 AFL Grand Final, and six AFL Finals appearances. He also oversaw Footscray’s 2016 VFL Premiership and the AFLW team’s 2018 Premiership.
Grant said stepping away was a difficult decision but felt the timing was right.
“I’ve spent over half of my life with the Club as a player and administrator and will cherish the many memories we have created together at the Western Bulldogs,” he said. “I leave knowing the Club is in a great position to succeed and write the next chapter in its history.”
CEO Ameet Bains praised Grant’s leadership and legacy.
“Chris has always put the Club first, building a legacy that includes overseeing two premierships and countless accolades,” Bains said. “We’re extremely grateful to Chris for everything he has done and wish him well for the next chapter of his journey.”
President Kylie Watson-Wheeler also acknowledged his profound impact on the club, saying, “His dedication and commitment over three decades have left an indelible mark on our club’s history.”
