Bailey Smith is already making an impact at the Geelong Cats during his first pre-season with the club. The star midfielder joined Geelong for the 2024 AFL season and has been praised for his smooth integration into the team and his potential to bring versatility to the field.
Speaking to the media at GMHBA Stadium, defender Zach Guthrie highlighted Smith’s contributions during the pre-season.
“When making a change, it can be a bit challenging, but Bailey has fitted in really well and showcased why he is such a good player early on,” Guthrie said.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing what Bailey can do across the year. I think he’ll bring some great strengths, which will only grow as we get more into match-specific drills.”
Smith’s ability to adapt to multiple roles is expected to be a key weapon for the Cats in 2024.
“When you are a player like Bailey, and you’ve got a number of strengths, flexibility is something we can really utilise,” Guthrie added.
“I’m sure he’ll play different positions for us and do so at a really high level. He’s a real weapon for us, and I think his contributions will make a big difference this year.”
The Cats are gearing up for their one and only pre-season match against Essendon before the AFL season officially begins. They will open their campaign with an Opening Round clash against the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba. Geelong’s first home game will follow in Round 1 against Fremantle at GMHBA Stadium.
