Adam Saad extends contract with Carlton

Carlton defender Adam Saad has committed to the Blues until the end of 2026, signing a one-year contract extension.

The 30-year-old has played 86 games for Carlton since joining from Essendon at the end of 2020. Saad quickly established himself as a key figure in the Blues’ defence, known for his speed, precise ball use, and ability to lock down opposition small forwards.

Saad’s standout 2022 season earned him All-Australian honours, and he played a crucial role in Carlton’s finals campaign in 2023, missing just one game. Across 18 matches last season, Saad averaged 18.3 disposals, 5.8 intercepts, and 321.9 metres gained, ranking No.1 in the AFL for bounces per game.

Beloved by fans, Saad’s long-range kicking and the iconic “woof” chant at games cement his place as a fan favourite. He follows in the footsteps of Carlton legends Val Perovic and Ang Christou in earning this unique on-field recognition.

Off the field, Saad is equally impactful. He relaunched the Adam Saad Pathways program upon joining Carlton, supporting youth from culturally diverse backgrounds in their personal and athletic development. His community work earned him the Tom Hafey Award in 2021 and a nomination for the Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award.

Carlton’s Head of List Management, Nick Austin, expressed excitement about retaining Saad.

“We are so pleased to see Adam continue his career at Carlton,” Austin said.

“His sharp ball use, outstanding kicking ability, and speed make him one of the best small defenders in the league. Adam’s contribution extends beyond the field, with his significant community initiatives making him an asset to the club.”

The Blues are optimistic about Saad’s future at IKON Park, with both parties showing faith in the extended deal.
