Western Bulldogs young gun Sam Darcy has committed his long-term future to the club, signing a four-year contract extension that will keep him at the Kennel until the end of 2029.
The 21-year-old third-generation Bulldog, already contracted for 2025, showed his faith in the Bulldogs’ program by locking in his future early. Darcy has played 28 games since being drafted with Pick 2 in the 2021 AFL Draft and enjoyed a standout 2024 season.
In 2024, Darcy averaged 12.5 disposals, 4.9 marks, and 2.9 tackles per game while kicking 38 goals from 21 matches. His ability to perform at both ends of the ground shone through as he settled into a forward-ruck role, becoming one of the competition’s most difficult players to defend.
Darcy expressed his excitement about securing his future with the Bulldogs.
“It was a really easy decision for me in the end,” he said. “This club means so much to me – I’ve got a rich family history here. I grew up supporting the Bulldogs, and I am very grateful to be living out my dreams at Mission Whitten Oval.”
Darcy is focused on building momentum for 2025.
“I just want to keep building on the foundations I set up last year and put in a big pre-season to hopefully set myself up for success in 2025,” he said.
Bulldogs Acting Head of Men’s Football, Sam Power, praised Darcy’s commitment and potential.
“Sam has shown plenty of exciting qualities early in his career. He’s become one of the most challenging forwards to defend while maintaining his elite competitive edge,” Power said. “He’s an important part of the Club’s future with plenty of growth still remaining in his game.”
Darcy’s extension reflects not only his faith in the club’s direction but also the Bulldogs’ confidence in his role as a cornerstone of their future.
