Cerra secures long-term Carlton future

The Carlton Football Club has announced a major boost to its future, with star midfielder Adam Cerra re-signing for a further five years. The new deal ensures Cerra will remain at IKON Park until at least the end of 2030.

The 25-year-old midfielder, known for his elite kicking and balanced gameplay, has become a key figure in Carlton’s midfield since joining the club from Fremantle at the end of 2021. Cerra has already played over 100 AFL games, bringing valuable experience to a developing Blues side.

Cerra enjoyed a strong start to the 2024 season, averaging 21.3 disposals across the first six rounds, including a standout performance against North Melbourne where he recorded 22 disposals, seven tackles, and a goal. This followed his career-best 2023 campaign, where he ranked first at Carlton for inside 50s, and second for clearances and tackles, demonstrating his importance on both ends of the field.

One of Cerra’s most memorable moments came during the 2023 elimination final against Sydney, where he kicked a crucial goal to help the Blues secure victory. He also shone in rivalry clashes against Collingwood and Richmond, having received three Brownlow votes in his Carlton debut against the Tigers back in Round 1, 2022.

Selected as pick No.5 in the 2017 AFL Draft, Cerra has thrived at Carlton, forming a strong partnership with fellow midfielder Sam Walsh. Carlton Head of List Management Nick Austin highlighted the significance of Cerra’s long-term commitment.

“Adam has had an impact in our side since his arrival at the football club, and for him to commit his future long-term at IKON Park is a show of faith,” Austin said.

“He’s a much-loved, highly respected figure in the playing group. At just 25, we think he’s still got levels to add to his game, and his leadership continues to grow every year.”

Cerra’s commitment underlines Carlton’s confidence in their core group as they aim to push for success in the years ahead.
